How do I use a credit privacy number?

If you want credit privacy, freeze your credit with all three credit reporting agencies.  It is completely free and means that nobody can access your credit file at all even with your social security number and authorisation.  You then lift your credit for a short period if you want to be approved for (say) a home loan.  You  would be amazed at the number of businesses that think it is ok to check your credit for kicks and giggles.

I have heard nothing but bad things about using CPN numbers.

The idea of using a CPN is to avoid using your SSN and have negative reviews/ bad credit score revealed. HOWEVER, they still always ask for SSN for verification of identity.
