When do schools usually schedule the SATs?

I know you can possibly take it any year from freshman year, but when do schools usually do them? California in particular

Update:

Also, how many weeks should you spend prepping for it

Most student take the ACT or SAT second semester junior year. Then they have time to take it a second time during the summer to raise their score. Most student do raise their score taking it a second time.

What classes you take, at what level and your grade in them can affect your score. Students who taken honor and AP classes are have a high gpa usually score very well. With little studying.

My daughter didn’t study at all for the ACT and scored high.

These exams are more about the knowledge you already have and how well you can use that knowledge. Timing is a key factor. If you don’t know an answer to you guess or skip it? Study how to take the exam.

Best time to take the SAT (or ACT) is the spring/early summer of your junior year. You want to see your scores before you start submitting college applications that fall to ensure your scores are good enough for the schools you want to apply to. Do not take the exams more than a year prior to applying to universities.

Schools do not set exam dates. The testing agencies set dates & list participating testing locations. How much prep you need or want depends on how good a student you are, what universities you're aiming for. You can get review books at major bookstores, amazon, etc, as well as many public libraries. Taking sample tests will give you a good idea of how much work you might need.
