    You are balancing the the potential energy

    mgh= 1/2 k x^2= 2*9.8*4 sin 30 =1/2 100 x^2

    x^2= 8*9.8/100=78.4/100.

    x= 8.854/10=0.8854m

      Like the OP, you have omitted the change in GPE during compression of the spring.

    Ooh, you were close. But in addition to falling through 4m*sin30º the block ALSO falls through x*sin30º. The correct equation is

    mg(d+x)sin30º = ½kx²

    When I plug in your values, I get

    x = 0.989 m

    Hope this helps!

      Energy acquired is mgh. I agree that the height should be reduced by length of the spring.
