Why is my stomach hard?

Now, I'm middle aged, and I got a bit of a gut. However, the belly is extremely firm. It's hardly a six-pack, but if were due to excess weight, I would have thought it would be a lot softer and jigglier. My wife thinks there might be something wrong with my liver, that's why it's so hard. But I don't have any problems with my liver that I can tell. I don't drink alcohol very much either. Is this is just normal for how men put on weight vs. women?

Absolutely no way to answer that with out an exam. Truncal obesity (fat inside the abdominal cavity) can make it feel hard. Liver problems would have more signs that just a firm abdomen at some point.
