About 30 different stocks, some paying solid but safe dividend, others with growth, some with a few energy stocks.

I have a wife and three daughters, there's no way I would get to see the money.

If I had a decision, I would buy a muni bond ladder, for monthly interest.

Might not be wrong, the US market has been on a tear and wildly successful while the international markets have for the most part been horrible.  FYI your probably late to the Brexit sell off as well, I'm up 40% in a couple months on my British Banks.
