Auto mechanics - If I use a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter on an impact wrench, will the adapter reduce the torque output? And what about vice versa?

Too short to affect the torque. No.

Just like when you use a deep impact socket compared with a short impact socket you lose a bit of torque. Adapters will decrease torque too.
If something won't come loose with the air compressor PSI or electric impact wrench you have use a torch to heat the metal up or start the bolt or nut loose with a breaker bar before using the impact wrench.Source(s): Mitsubishi Master Tech

Simply put, no.

As long as the adapter is good quality and can stand the torque involved, it should have no effect at all.
