Why do cats like the pss pss pss noise?

Cats have excellent hearing and can detect an extremely broad range of frequencies. They can hear higher-pitched sounds than humans or most dogs, detecting frequencies from 55 Hz up to 79 kHz, while adults humans can't hear too well frequencies above 15 kHz. So the pss pss noise sounds to them as something unrelated to humans (much higher than the usual human talk) so they're kind of surprised by it. I don't think they especially "like" it, though, but it sure attracts their attention. 😸

Never met one that did. My cats hate when I do this, so I do it when they are being bad.
