Maybe something as focus of more specialized training. Military life be a strange onus to most, that's why it's not so easy to explain.

Boot camp......also referred to as Basic Training in other branches,  is just that.

    *Basic*  training.

Once they have you semi-squared away,  you then usually go on to another phase called  A school, or further technical training in your chosen  (or assigned)  field.

After that........you are then assigned to a ship or unit, to do that job.

The same thing that military women do.  Seriously, it's the 21st Century.

They go to training for their jobs.  Then to go to their first unit.

If that was some of woman joke, it would have gone over better if it weren't for the fact that I am a guy.

They go to technical school to learn the trade the military has chosen for them. After school, they go to work doing what they were taught to do.

Boot Camp is designed to transition recruits from the civilian world into the military world.  After Boot Camp, new trainees go to training for the specific job.  For the Army this is AIT (Advanced Individual Training).  For the Navy, it is "A" school.

The completion of basic and job training means the new servicemember has completed Initial Entry Training (IET) and goes to their first unit.

At a unit, servicemembers do their jobs. Training always continues as servicemembers advance in their careers.  Additionally, work must be performed.

What do they do after Initial Entry Training?  Their jobs.
