Car would not start. Got a jump.?

Guy said let it run 20 minutes beore turning it off. I let run for 30 minutes. Turned it off and then it would not restart. Got another jump and then took the car to the dealership. Dealership said something is running or making the battery think it is running and they have to look at the whole electrical system of the car. $240.00 to just look and see what is wrong. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is $240.00 to expensive? it seems if I take my car to anyplace besides the dealership they don't fix it.

$240 is on the high side for a diagnostic. But electrical problems like these are hard to find. Most likely a computer isn't going into sleep mode and is drawing too much power. See this post on what causes this.

get the battery charged and then go to an auto parts store and they will test the battery and charging system for free.

Battery. If the car will run with a jump, bad battery.

    Agree with Oaklatom.

Only use the dealer if they will fix it under warranty. Otherwise find a local mechanic. Most people can check their alternator with a basic multimeter anyway.See the info in the link.

Get another jump and get way from the dealer.  Go see a mechanic of drive to a parts store and ask if they can test your alternator and battery to see what is wrong.

You may have just a loose cable or a bad alternator or battery.  Find out, get it fixed.
