My package was "out for delivery" but now it's available for pickup?

My package arrived at the post office at 9am and was out for delivery (by USPS) shortly. I was home all day, looking out for the mail and my dad was even outside fixing his truck. The mail lady did come but my package did not. At 5:20pm, the tracking status said that it was available for pickup. I was wondering what that meant or why it's that way. And if it had happened to to anyone else?

Parcels are usually delivered by someone other than your regular delivery person, and that person returned it to the post office at the end of the day.

That usually happens when the item is too big to fit in the mailbox. When this happens they'll take it back to the post office and leave a card in the box so that you can pick it up the next day.

That might be because you ordered in off of amazon a long time ago
