Why should mentally ill people go to prison?
About 16 percent of men who are incarcerated, on probation or parole are diagnosed PSYCHOPATHS. That’s just not okay. They need help. They need to be in a hospital!

The reason mentally ill people go to prison is because they knew that they were mentally ill and they did not take the responsibility upon themselves to get treatment before they harmed themselves or another person. this demonstrates to the judge and to society that they simply don't give a damn about the health and welfare of other people. It also demonstrates significant mental understanding of right and wrong! So when a person who is mentally ill goes out and commits a crime the state takes charge of their life and puts them in prison where they're both punished for their negative behavior and at the same time they are forced to receive medical treatment for their illness. Perhaps when they get out 10 years later they will be significantly in a better State of mind to maintain their medication and treatment themselves and remember if they don't they'll end up back in the cage!

They should be kept in secure psychiatric units. That is what the UK does with people who have committed serious violent crimes and murder because of insanity.

And is there a cure for psychopathy? If not, they belong in prison. Or in a grave.

I agree. A clinically proven psychopath should be in a mental lock down hospital. BUT...all that need to be proven in a legal court is that the defendant knew at the time of the crime , he/she knew what they did was illegal. Off to prison, no hospital.

1. did they commit a crime? Yes.
2. Can they fake a mental illness? Yes, and many do just that to try to get off.
3. Others who have never commited a crime whould get help before criminals.
