Can an Air Force jet land on an aircraft carrier?

    Unlikely. Air Force jets are equipped to land on runways that are typically over 10,000 feet long. They don't have the arresting hooks needed to stop the airplanes on a short carrier deck.

    Yes, but it takes a trained pilot! The big problem I think is more about how to get it airborne after it lands.

    If it has a tail hook, yes. If it is a VSTOL, probably. They landed a USAF C130 on a carrier once mainly because it can stop quick.

    While some Air Forces (such as RCAF, RAAF, Finnish and Swiss Air Forces) operate aircraft that were originally designed to operate off the aircraft carriers, they do not operate aircraft carriers and their pilots are not trained to land on them. I should point out, however, that a Finnish Air Force pilot on an exchange program with US Marines landed an F/A-18C on a USS Abraham Lincoln in 2018.

    To cope with the stresses of repeated carrier arrested landings and catapult launches and constant exposure to salt water prompted the engineers to make the naval aircraft structure heavier than that of a comparable land-based aircraft. The designers of land-based aircraft don't have to deal with these requirements and so they are free to make the structure lighter, thus making them unsuitable to carrier operations.

    Even the naval and land-based versions of the same model, while appearing similar at first glance have major internal differences. The US Navy's F-35Cs have larger wing area, a two wheel nose landing gear with a longer leg, a tow bar to engage the catapult shuttle, an attachment for a hold-back bar, and a stronger tail hook than the Air Force's F-35As. The F-4 Phantoms built for the US Air Force, for example, were structurally different that those built for the US Navy and US Marines. The French Air Force Rafale B/Cs are also different from the French Navy's Rafale Ms.

    All Canadian Hornets are equipped with tail hooks for carrier landings.

    Canada has no aircraft carriers.

    Yes.  Will they be able to stop is a different question.            Only a VTOL type can stay on the deck after landing, while the others "swim with the fishes"

      Do you realize that VTOL stands for "Vertical Take Off & Landing" - there are very few aircraft types equipped with this capability and certainly not every carrier capable aircraft.

    As long as it's capable of vertical landing or is fitted for carrier operations with a reinforced undercarriage and tail hook it can.  If the pilot is able.

    I don't believe that USAF jets have the arresting device that hooks onto the chain that stops it from running the length of the carrier which would make the runway on the carrier much too short.
