It's a mixture capable of separation, whereas a compound is all one chemical make-up, and a pure substance is an inseparable molecular liquid.

A mixture. A compound can't be separated by "physical means".

The original liquid is a mixture.  The two resulting liquids are pure substances.  A pure substance may either be a compound or an element.
