An essay has three parts: introduction, body and conclusion.
Paragraph 1: introduction. This paragraph tells the reader what the essay is about. The last sentence in the introductory paragraph is the thesis statement, a list of the things you are going to discuss in the body paragraphs.
There is one paragraph for each of the things listed in the thesis.
The last paragraph is the conclusion. You do a quick repeat of what you discussed and bring it all to an end.
Example: I'm going to discuss one of my favorite movies.
Paragraph 1: introduce the movie, what it's about; make a list of reasons why it's my favorite movie
Thesis list: "it's funny, has music, adventurous"
Body: write one paragraph for each of the reasons listed in the thesis.
"It's funny because..."
Describe the music
How is it adventurous?
Conclusion: make a repeat of the list of things discussed in the body, then round up the essay
*the list in your thesis statement and in the first sentence in your conclusion must match the order of the body paragraphs.Source(s): Degree in English and minor in Creative Writing

When someone wants to read an essay in a newspaper or.... then want to know what the essay will be about first.
That's why a thesis and intro should start your essay.

Introduction, Body, Conclusion
I had a teacher who said, "You can't introduce [a person] before you get to know them first." So with the essay, write the body first. Then write the intro and conclusion last. Sometimes that can help.

"Begin with an attention grabber. The attention grabber you use is up to you, but here are some ideas: ...
If the attention grabber was only a sentence or two, add one or two more sentences that will lead the reader from your opening to your thesis statement.
Finish the paragraph with your thesis statement."
