Is a cat or dog life more important than a farm animal s life?
If we knew of an individual who tortured a cat or dog to death, we would want to crucify them. Yet no one bats an eye when this happens to dozens of chickens, pigs and cattle. Why is that?

Modern animal farming can be cruel. But the normal old practices are not animal torture. Buy from places that pledge to practice humane animal treatment. It'll cost you though. Or you can be completely animal free.

That's why some animals are livestock and others are pets.

The livestock industry and slaughter process are strictly regulated in most places, and those who abuse livestock are often dealt with criminally if it can be proved. Most who raise livestock care about the well-being of their animals and do their best to ensure they're treated well. Animals that are stressed are less efficient and produce lower quality meat, so there is no incentive to abuse livestock and in fact doing so can cost the rancher money. They are not "tortured to death" but are dispatched by carefully researched methods as quickly and painlessly as possible. Constant research is done in the areas of reducing stress in livestock and humane slaughter to improve things for the animals (which also improves meat quality and feed efficiency).

Farm animals, even from factory farms, are not tortured to death. They live in sub par conditions, but are not beaten, abused and tortured. While the conditions the animals live in is not ok at all, lets not make things up and exaggerate.
Dogs and cats being killed by a crazy person doesn't do anything for anyone. Animals raised and killed for food does.
People do care. This is why vegans, vegetarians and people who buy locally from a farmer that cares for the animals properly exist.
Dogs and cats are pets here, never food, so its always going to upset people. People would be equally upset if someone killed another persons pet pig.

In civilised countries it is illegal to torture any animal....... farm animals are producted for food, they are looked after and slaughtered within the law of the country...so not tortured!

Probably because we eat them.
