Ever notice how conservatives only call it "socialism" when it benefits the American people?

They didn't call the trillion-dollar Wall St. bailouts "socialism."

They don't call nearly $1 trillion in oil & gas subsidies "socialism."

They don't call the billions of farmer bailouts "socialism."

But health care, wages, food for poor people? "SOCIALISM!"

„Socialism is a scare word they've hurled at every advance the people have made. Socialism is what they called public power, social security, deposit insurance, and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for anything that helps all people.“ --Harry Truman, 1952

Yeah but see, that's actually social democracy, not socialism. There's a big difference. Universal healthcare, stuff like that: that's social democracy.

A socialist form of government on the other hand, is when the economy is controlled to a high degree by the state, with large-scale nationalisation of industries. You couldn't start a small business in a socialist country, for example. You don't have much freedom and everyone's pay is equal (equally low), no matter if you're an astronaut or a street sweeper. Think Soviet Union, Venezuela right now, Cuba: that's socialism (Communism was the goal they were striving for, not their actual system).

So yes. When people refer to social democratic programs as 'socialism', they are wrong, no matter if they're from the left or the right. And it also trivialises the victims of one of the most destructive and miserable ideologies of the 20th century.

Because the people pulling the strings in their party are incredibly rich and don't want to see the middle class and below live better via government subsidy.

They neither know or care about their level of hypocrisy or the mendacity it requires to ignore it.

Liberals like to call it a subsidy when government lowers their taxes and keep more of the money they make.

AOC the idiot that claims to have a commerce degree made the same mistake when she helped drive Amazon jobs out of NYC.

She claimed they could use the 3 billion dollar subsidy (tax cut) to fix the subway and was then surprised to learn there was no pile of money.

This is what happens when ignorant socialists believe their own lies.

Many were against the too big to fail bailouts. The result was, even larger too big to fail. Many believed the government should have either let them fail, or be forced to break up. I wonder if the record setting amount of money Obama received from those to big to fail, had anything to do with not breaking them up, not sending people to jail.

Massive state bailouts for companies in private ownership is the OPPOSITE of socialism.

Socialism is that the means of production belong to the people and the benefits of this production go to the people.

Whilst this is some peoples' idea of nirvana, unfortunately it has been shown that it doesn't work because of the greed of the leaders of the state to take more than their share. So it pretty much ends up being the same as the system it replaced.

Still, the principal of sharing the benefits of our society with those less fortunate, less well educated, less healthy - or just old, is very popular in some of the more civilised countries around the world

Why no outrage from the Trump minions when it was announced that more than 3 million people will get cut out of the food stamp program, many who are Trump supporters, while at the same time Trump gives billions to farmers for Trumps own trade war mistake?
