Can you choose your own question category?
Coming back on yahoo after being away for 6 years . Why can’t you choose what category you want your question to be? What else is different? Im also using phone desktop mode. old yahoo on the desktop used to be fun.
Also what is the points system like? You used to loose points for asking .

Yes, you can choose the category/subcategory but you must wait until after you've submitted your question. If you include keywords relevant to your subcategory of choice, you increase the chances your post will land there without you needing to relocate it. You can move your question by clicking Edit>Edit category just beneath your question, then selecting the category in which it is better suited.
Points info is here https://answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_system and yes, you still lose points for asking a question (5 pts - but you can get 3 of them back if you select a Best Answer for your question, which you can do once it has been posted for at least 1 hour).

You can't choose the category yourself. Yahoo posts your question in the category it thinks suitable, using 'key words' to help the process. Obviously this can go wrong, eg if Yahoo's response to 'Why doesn't my German shepherd like dog food?' is to post the question in the 'Languages' category.
It's the responsibility of each asker to check immediately where their question has been posted, and to move it if necessary to a better category. Everyone, even Level Ones, can move their own question.

Yes you can. Just post the question. If it lands in a wrong category, click "edit" and "change category"
