i have an old canon powershot s5is. any tips for taking photos?

    Look for photo opportunities that tell a story. If it doesn't tell a story it's a boring photo.

    Use the Rule of Thirds grid layout with the important subject at one of the line intersections.

    Don't chop hands and heads off.

    Focus on people's and pets eyes.

    Use the Scene Modes until you get used to the camera.

    To avoid disappointment at long telephoto length it needs to be held very steady and have as fast a shutter speed as possible. The i.s. can only help so far.

    Point and shoot!

    Always be mindful of the light.

    When indoors or at night time, turn on flash.

    After a day's shoot, copy all photos to the computer then format the sd card for the next photo-op.
