Can you have strep throat without swollen tonsils?

I most symptoms of strep but not swollen tonsils. High temperature, very red throat (not tonsils), loss of appetite, no cold symptoms, swollen lymph glands and very painful swallowing. Can you get strep throat without your tonsils swelling?

Yes strep throat isn't the same as tonsillitis which may or may not be caused by strep.

There's no reliable way to distinguish strep throat from viral pharyngitis except through testing.

Testing for strep throat involves swabbing the uvula and not the tonsils. That's the little bell thing that hangs in the back of your throat.

Go to a walk-in clinic, get a swab test and find out if you have strep. They'll prescribe antibiotics if you do. If you don't have strep (which is a bacterial sore throat), then you have a viral sore throat and it will clear up on its own in about a week.
