Calculate the Ecell value at 298 K for the cell based on the reaction:?

    Cu²⁺(aq) + 2e⁻ → Cu²⁺(aq) …… E° = 0.3419 V

    For the reaction:

    Cu(s) + 2Ag⁺(aq) → Cu²⁺(aq) + 2Ag(s) …… Ecell = ?

    standard cell e.m.f,, Ecell° = E°(red) - E°(oxid) = 0.7996 - 0.3419 = 0.3477 V

    Gas constant, R = 8.314 J/(mol K)

    Temperature, T = 298 K

    No. of e⁻ involved. n = 2

    1 F = 96485 C

    By Nernst equation, Ecell

    = Ecell° - [RT/(nF)] ln([Cu²⁺]/[Ag⁺]²)

    = 0.3477 - [8.314 × 298 / (2 × 96485)] ln(8.00 × 10⁻⁴ / 0.00100²)

    = 0.2618 V

    ≈ 0.262 V (to 3 sig. fig.)
