Apartment living is not for me?

Even the cheapest apartments

in California cost $800/month.

I've always wanted to live in

a tepee or yurt. How much

does that cost? What other

options are there? Thank You.

$800 IS pretty cheap.  You might find a place for $500 in some parts of the country.  If you want an option other than an apartment, rent a room in someone's house or a room in a rooming house (in big cities).  You might also find a cheap mobile home in a mobile home park.  Under bridges won't cost you in the way of rent but it sure will in the way of safety and security.  Stay away from federal and state lands and private lands.  That's doesn't leave much.

You'd need to find land to live on, or someone willing to let you live on their land if you don't own any. Cost would therefore vary.

You'd also need to consider how you'd access utilities - generally tents aren't connected with water / electricity / internet etc.

Nor do tents come with central heating.

Live on a boat in a marina?

    Rent a trailer?

Buy an RV and sleep in campgrounds?

Rent a single room from a homeowner?

Live with the homeless in LA?
