Are sailors in US Navy allowed smoke when on ship/at sea?

Am enlisting next year and know you aren't allowed smoke cigarettes during training but is out allowed on ships after training. Can you smoke just on deck or inside?

Will be 19 then and the minimum smoking age in my age is 21 but assume that in the Navy it would be OK at 18?

nope, all ships and boats( subs)  are smoke-free now.  as are every building on base.  many bases have also gone so far as to eliminate outdoor smoking areas as well.

if you are a current smoker you will be quitting for boot camp anyway.   stay quit afterward.

sure. 8 feet from the edge of the ship, just like every other job.

    hope you can swim...

Depends on the policy on the ship your on.   Most surface ships allow smoking at specific times.   Smoking is not allowed on Submarines at any time.
