will getting a electrical wire connection wet on outdoor lighting cause the entire system to not work or create short?

accidently tripped over an outdoor lamp and it cracked the base that covers some type of blue wire that has a plastic thing over where it connects to another wire. and it is exposed. So i was thinking of glueing the base back together , but it is suppose to rain tonight and it is dark. so , question is, how likely a good , hard rain will cause the entire electrical circuit to short or cause the lamp to not work anymore?

Update:

To clarify above, there is still the plastic covering the connection between the two wires. but i was concerned that the base that covered it helped to protect it from rain.

can't tell without photo. just put a piece of electrical tape, or even ordinary cello tape, over the crack for the night and deal with it tomorrow
