If I make onion dip with healthy plain yogurt instead of sour cream will the salt and spices kill the active cultures ?

    The active cultures are already dead, because manufacturers often heat-treat yogurt after fermentation which kills the active cultures.

    May not kill them right away but over time probably.  Your dip will still be much better choice than if you used full fat sour cream. 

    I also boos the onion by caramelizing onion and stirring that into the dip.
