Social worker visit because my mum wants to foster ?
My mum has applied to foster children but the social workers want to visit me I'm 42 and don't live with my mum. Why do they want to visit me

Because your MOM is applying to provide foster care. Seems pretty self-explanatory.

It's common to speak with other close family members about your mother, your view on her being a foster parent, etc.

to ask if mom ever abused you

Because your mum is not an isolated island. Even if you don't live with her, you are in her life. And you can be expected to have plenty of interaction with the kids your mum will foster. You're also part of your mum's support system.
The social workers just want to make sure the kids will be in a healthy environment when fostered by your mother. You are part of that environment.
