In general viruses, parasites, and bacteria are only able to infect certain hosts, and they have a difficult time infecting hosts that are different genetically. Therefore we seldom get diseases from other animals not closely related to us, including cats, dogs, birds, turtles, snakes and lizards. Diseases that infect reptiles can be passed along to other reptiles. That is why some reptile keepers spray their hands with alcohol after touching one kind, but before touching another individual reptile, to prevent them from passing bugs from one reptile to another. Alcohol kills almost all germs, including viruses.
