    They don't.

About half of them work on farms.

Some -- but not all -- of the other half work in construction.

Recent immigrants do tend to work blue collar jobs, just as poor people in general tend to work blue collar jobs. But also immigrants have an entrepreneurial spirit about them. So they may start out doing mundane tasks like stapling carpet or some other low paying job in the construction field, but they will save their money and keep on learning on the job. Later in life, they will own their own construction company. The Mexican construction workers are an economic mix. Some are poor, some are upper middle class. Almost all of them are very kind hearted people. Mexicans don't just get into construction, though. Their children sometimes follow in their fathers footsteps, especially if the father owns a business, or they will go to college and learn a different profession. I live in a city that is 80% Mexican American. They aren't all construction workers.

They work twice as hard as people born here.

Their children will be doctors and lawyers.

Working in construction takes skill and the work is hard.

If you need to see more minority millionaires, look to Asian and Caribbean immigrants, and their kids. They are already there. Just not ostentatious about their wealth. They pour it back into their restaurants, shops, convenience stores, motels, and their kids educations.

Construction is EASY to UNDERSTAND yet very HARD WORK. Not a lot of communication is required to get across what is desired. A limited education is all that is required to work in construction. They just need experience...and that they have.

    Construction workers do honest work.

We need good people doing these jobs.

    I do similar work.
