In Manual mode, don't raise the flash.

Doesn't make sense? Turn mode dial to the No Flash symbol. That's the lightning in a circle with a line across it.

Still can't figure it out? There's a button marked by a lightning (this time no circle, no bar across). Hit that repeatedly until you see on the LCD an icon that shows the lightning (again) and this time with a circle and the bar across (meaning no flash).

Okay. Nothing works? READ THE MANUAL!

Read the instruction manual?   Just a thought.

Most of the time the flash button is used to cycle through the flash options (e.g. off, on or fill flash, and auto).  Panasonic makes many, many different digital cameras all named Lumix.  Which one do you have?

Read the manual as this is a very, very, very basic question.  If you don't know how to turn the flash off/on, then there's probably a lot of other things you're not aware of and aren't likely to be getting the most out of your camera.

You do it by READING THE CAMERA OWNERS MANUAL. It will tell you how. Somewhere on the camera, either on an outside button or in the menu, will be a flash bolt icon. When you select that you will have options as to how the flash fires, one of which will be OFF, typically indicated by the lightning bolt symbol with a circle and line drawn through it. READ YOUR MANUAL.

Put a piece of masking tape over the flash bulb.
