Given that AI is already writing code, how long will it be before coders become obsolete?

    I assume you mean programmers in general!

    People predicted the end of coders when compilers were made. One of the first was called Fortran, Formula Translator, you put in a formula and it translates it to machine code.

    That didn't stop the need for programmers. They are just programming at a higher level with high level languages. So with AI there will still be programmers telling the AI what to do but with a higher level language.

    All the answers thus far are correct. The "end of coding" has been predicted since about 1970. Wouldn't be surprised if Babbage and Lovelace thought about the possibility 130 years earlier. I think she suggested they would compose music.
