You might want to ask your doctor to check her for NTM lung infection. "NTM" stands for Non-Tuberculosis Microbacterial lung disease. It's not something that is usually tested for, and a person can have it for years before it becomes acute. It mimics the symptoms of COPD, and many people are diagnosed as having COPD, when what they actually have is NTM. It's treated with several months of 3 different kinds of antibiotics that you take 3 times a day.

Roughly 75,000 - 105,000 people will be diagnosed each year in the U.S.

Spitting up or coughing up blood is BAD. If it is not TB there are a bunch of other things it could be, such as cancer. They need to keep looking until they find the cause.

You don't have to do anything. It's up to your wife to seek medical treatment.

TB isn't the only cause of bloody mucous.

The main other reason would be Non-Tuberculosis Microbacterial  (NTM) lung disease..It's diagnosed by obtaining a sample of the mucous in her lungs. If she doesn't cough up bloody mucous, then a tube in run down her nose into her lungs, to obtain a sample of the mucous.  It's not contagious.
