In Mexico, avocados destined for the US are not grown on corporate plantations, but family farms. One by one, however, the farmers are being?

murdered or kicked off their land by ruthless drug cartels who are bent determined to corner the lucrative avocado export market.

What can Americans, as the world's largest consumer of Mexican avocados, do to

1. Keep cartel avocados out of the US supply and

2. Combat the murderous drug cartels who are wreaking havoc in Mexico's avocado country?

1 is virtually impossible without 2 and 2 is the Mexican government's responsibility.  The US does and will continue to work with Mexican authorities to combat cartels.  There is little more that can be done officially.

US avocado consumer could of course boycott Mexican avocados but they'd be punishing the remaining family farmers also.

It will come down to how badly US consumers want to combat the drug cartels.  I suspect enough to hurt family farmers but not enough to bother the cartels.... who will then take over the remaining farms.

What a predicament for avocado consumers!

It is amazing how the Left shrieks the USA should not be the World's Policeman........ until they see an opportunity to criticize the USA for not being the World's Policeman.
