Good luck on amtrack. Whatever that is.

Amtrak does allow a carry on.

Do you need to show a ticket at some point? YES

Do you need to find a way to get to the station? YES

Do you need to board your train? YES

If you have a reserved seat you are expected to sit in it.

There are these big clear things called windows and you can look out of them for FREE .

Depending on the train you are allowed to stand up and move around to the other cars to use things available like the dining car, lounge car if your train has them.

You are allowed to open your bag and read your book too.

Well, if you ride an Amtrak train, then it is not likely that you will have to check in such a carryon item.
