1919 saw the end of WWI. The reason this is important from the technological stand points is that a lot of farm boys had seen the big city and the differences in technology between the big cities and the rural country.

Inventions (innovations) include zippers, military tanks, Oreo cookies, stainless steel, first cross word puzzle, the pop-up toaster, safety hood smoke protector and life savers.

In 1905, Albert Einstein published his classic papers on Brownian motion, the photoelectric effect and special relativity, the latter providing us with one of the classic equations of all time: E=mc2. And in 1911 Ernest Rutherford discovered the atomic nucleus.

The airplane, the car, telephones, electricity, machine guns photographs etc.. Most of these things were invented in the late 1800s or early 1900s but were just becoming somewhat common in the late 1900s.
