Things don't look good for us. More than 99 percent of all species, amounting to over five billion species, that ever lived on Earth are estimated to have died out.

    Will humans go extinct? Sure

Will there be a species that "rules" after us? Probably not. Chances are we take all intelligent other species along with us

We evolved from an ape, and there were quite a few intermediate species between our ape ancestor and living humans. The last ancestor we had was H. erectus, which first appeared 1.8 million years ago and became extinct in Africa about 200,000 years ago, having been replaced by H. sapiens. They lasted a bit longer in Asia, but became extinct after humans migrated out of Africa to Asia starting 60,000 years ago.

Will a new species of humans evolve from us and replace us? We simply do not know. Evolutionary future is unpredictable because new species evolve to adapt to new ways of life (or niches) or in response to environmental changes. Since we do not know what new niche may become available nor do we know what kind of environmental changes may happen in the future, we therefore have no idea whether and when a new species may evolve from us.

We may become extinct without leaving any descendants. It seems likely if we engage in an all out global nuclear war or if a giant meteor smashes onto earth to create hellish conditions of fire and brimstones. That was why the dinosaurs became extinct. One thing for sure, no currently living human will live long enough to see a new species evolve from us within their lifetimes, since it takes more than a single or even a few generation for that to happen, but we may become extinct as a species within our lifetimes.

Yes. In about 3 billion years our sun will be too hot for life on this planet.

Will we die off? Inevitably yes. Will another species proceed and/or surpass us, possibly.

Perhaps, it is not for humans to know

Rarely does a species evolve to such control of the food chain. However, the dinos pretty much ruled the Earth, and that changed in the blink of an eye.
