Quick question: Can I let the butter melt in the cookie mix?

The butter didn't soften as well as I thought, so the dough is clumpy and somewhat dry. Is it too late to fix this by letting the room temperature soften it more or should I attempt to microwave the clumped up butter?

I think it's obvious that it's pre-made cookie mix.

what you didn't do was cream the butter with the sugar sufficiently.

if you let the butter melt in the dough, you will get greasy cookies.

Room temperature would be better, as if you m.wave, it will melt the butter too much and par cook the dough, it would go all wrong!

Do not microwave it that will begin to cook the dough

Leave it at room temp for a bit and then mix a bit more.

Take a microwave-safe glass bowl (that is bigger than the one you used for the cookie mix), put some water in it and heat it in the microwave until it boils.   Then dump the water out and put the hot bowl upside down covering the cookie mix bowl.    Wait a couple minutes and you'll have nice soft butter without melting it by nuking it.

This is one of my favorite kitchen hacks for quickly softening butter.
