    Sodium + water ➜ Sodium Hydroxide + Hydrogen

    2Na + 2H₂O ➜ 2NaOH + H₂

    molecular weights:

    2Na = 2•23 = 46

    2H₂O = 2•18 = 36

    2NaOH = 2(23+16+1) = 80 H₂ = 2

    check 46+36 = 80+2

    2 moles of Na + 2 moles of H₂O ➜ 2 moles of NaOH + 1 mole of H₂

    46 g of Na + 36 g of H₂O ➜ 80 g of NaOH + 2 g of H₂

    ratio of NaOH to Na is 80/46

    therefore x/20 = 80/46

    x = 34.8 g

    [20 / 2(23)] X [2(40)]  =  34.8g NaOH
