How does a wound become septic?
- formerly_bobLv 73 weeks agoFavorite Answer
A wound does not become septic - it can only trigger a septic reaction. Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response that occurs throughout the body when bacteria from a wound get into the blood stream in amounts large enough to trigger a widespread inflammatory response. The immune system reacts as if the whole body has an infection, causing an extreme reaction that can adversely affect the function of multiple organs.
