Can my friend lose his naturalized US citizenship for cheating on his wife?

He had a 3 year-old affair on their 8th year of their marriage and got the other woman is pregnant. They're in the process of getting divorced.

Can he lose his naturalized US citizenship for cheating on his wife? He's from Uruguay and his wife from NY. Though, he was already naturalized long before meeting his wife. Someone told me he can for being a cheating bastard.

Someone was making up sh*t or speaking their "wishful thinking" mind.

He was naturalized before meeting his wife. He does not therefore need a wife to maintain his citizenship status. If they divorce, he is still a naturalized citizen.

    Where "someone" was confused is...

If you get a green card through marriage, you can LOSE that green card, if the marriage fails within three years. This is a policy meant to discourage marriages of convenience. If you get a green card through marriage, you have to stay married, to avoid getting a really close examination from Immigration officials...

But he didn't have a green card when he got married, so he wasn't in danger of losing it. Also, the marriage lasted much longer than the necessary 3 years. You can't lose your citizenship through divorce.

I don't think so, it's always good to consult an immigration attorney.

No. He doesn't lose citizenship for being a cheat. If he is naturalized he stays that way. The only way he might be deported is if he commits a crime and the Courts decide that is part of his punishment.

I hope you don't mention his name and his details while you are going around town filling people in on his private business and asking them their opinions about it.

While it's very unfortunate that you associate with cheating people, no, your friend cannot lose his citizenship because of this.

As long as it's a legally recognized naturalization (ie he can get a US passport).  His affair doesn't affect anything at all in regard to his citizenship.

    No is the short answer.

No not if he was already naturalized before his wife. this means it wasn’t done through her. And even if it was this wouldn’t be the case. Cheating does not constitute a reason to remove someone’s legal status. And by the way you can only do that when the person has a green card not a us citizenship. You will make the process harder for the person, but you cannot jeopardize their status unless you can prove they were abusive or some extreme situation. And attempting to jeopardize someone’s status for these reasons can land you in legal trouble.

A good advice for you is to not try to mess up someone’s life because they cheated on you. yes they cheated, you are hurt but no need to go to the extreme to hurt them back. It’s not going to make your pain go away.
