    I am not sure of the context, but metrics tends to be used for measurements, for ways of numbering (giving quantity to) a judgement or evaluation.  Segments simply means "pieces of something".

    For example, audience metrics (probably the context you are concerned with) would be a quantitative description of the various types of people who enjoy or watch (how many of different class groups, the classes can be defined pretty well anyway you want or need).  Segments would tend to refer to different classes themselves (pieces of the total audience, like slices of a pie or cake).  Good metrics for the 18-25 year old male segment could be used to say "18-25 year old males really like this show".
