Not for those who have lost someone.

No. What has happened is that the gun grabbers inflated the numbers of "mass shootings" by lowering the number needed to stick that name on it. At one point it was FIVE dead. Now it is THREE dead and two wounded. So by lowering the number we get more reports of mass shootings. People KNOW that the numbers were played with so they pretty much ignore the reports now and only pay attention when it is ten or more. It is not that they are desensitized, it is just they know they are being flim flammed.

It's been happening a long time, we just have instant knowledge of events now and the media pushes the stories to fit their views which helps divide the country even more. The earliest known United States shooting to happen on school property was the Pontiac's Rebellion school massacre on July 26, 1764, where four Lenape American Indian entered the schoolhouse near present-day Greencastle, Pennsylvania, shot and killed schoolmaster Enoch Brown, and killed nine or ten children (reports vary).

It all goes though a clever system of double think to avoid actually doing that much or anything at all to stop it happening again which it regularly does.

Americans 150 or even 100 years ago never would hear about 90% of the mass shootings, except maybe a month or two later. But they wouldn't make the news because computers, Internet, and high-tech electronic news media didn't exist back then. But shootings went on in the Wild West and places far from peoples' homes.

I'm not desensitized, and I'm an American. I just see that the Left always tries to confuse what really happened. The Dayton shooter was an Elizabeth Warren / Bernie Sanders anti-gun radical. The El Paso shooter was basically a Social Darwinist. They were more swayed by post-modernism, like the Democrats are now, than anything else.

Overwhelmed might be a better description. We can't do anything about it, unless we make owning a gun illegal, and then other kinds of attacks could still occur. We're just coping with it in any way we can.

@ Bob  Yes it is true.

In reality, more people die from insect stings in the USA each year than from mass shootings of all types.

B most Americans die in Bed. 2nd accidents,3rd Medcial mistakes. then, Abortion. Shootings at very bottom,2/3 are justified police, self defense, and suicides. Of the bottom 1/3; 2/3 of Them Knew each other  (gangstas, drug dealer/client ) Only bottom 1/3 of this is cold blooded murder.
