Does alcohol cause sleep depravation?

I hear this from my doctor and worker but I'm not exactly sure if it does or what amount of alcohol may cause that.

I thought that a lot of people use alcohol as a sleeping agent and I have drank before and had no problem falling asleep, although maybe falling asleep to fast.

But can someone please accurately answer this question for me?

Alcohol may knock you out but the quality of sleep you get is poor hence will still lead to sleep deprivation.

Alcohol is classed as a depressant so can encorage you to fall asleep.

    Sounds good, right?

It can also affect your quality of sleep so while you may fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer your body does not gain as much benefit from the sleep, leading to sleep deprivation type of side effe ts.
