What is active duty army like?

Can soldiers still live a relatively normal life. Do they work similar hours that civilians do?

Just like any other job for the most part. Depends on your MOS of course.

Its like the boy scouts on a camping trip but you get a gun and taught to kill people to.

There is no standard day for a Soldier.  There are dozens of different jobs in the Army that vary based on MOS, rank, unit, and location.  A standard day for an infantryman in Korea is different than a standard day for an MP instructor at Ft Leonard Wood.

Some people work pretty normal hours.  Others don't.

The fact that most Army posts have family housing, day care facilities, gyms, and theaters, with dozens of strip clubs, Applebees, tattoo parlors, and bars right outside the gates indicates that most lead a pretty 'normal' life.
