if the film ' the black knight' from 1954 is in the public domain now, can i?

can i upload the film to youtube for others to enjoy? 

 the black knight film from 1954 starring alan ladd and the late peter cushing is now in the public domain, i bought my copy on dvd from ebay a year or so ago and the seller said in the listing that the black knight is now a public domain film.

Update:

i am sick of all the blasted copyright laws, damn them.

    It appears to be from Columbia Pictures, which is still in business and unlikely to have let the copyright lapse.

    While movies are visible to the public, there are still copyright laws that prevent people from legally publishing their content without permission from the creators.

    Publishing a movie onto YouTube without permission might be copyright infringement.

    Better check it closer. Many studios resubmit for that copyright. If they are holding it, you're in violation by posting it to Youtube.
