Is Washington DC a state? If not, what state is it part of?

If it was a state it would not be called a District. It is not a part of any state.

DC means district of Columbia. DC is in Maryland. DC should be moved to some place in the middle of the nation, and a new govt center built. There are far more than the original 13 now.

It is not a state. It is in a catastrophique state.

It is a district. It is within Maryland, but has never been considered a state. Why it gets 3 electoral votes, due to the 23rd Amendment, is a bit confusing, I admit. Here is the supposed logic for that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_of_Columbia...

No, 10 x 10 mile almost square (one edge is the Potomac) area carved out of Maryland hundreds of years ago. But large areas, like Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, hundreds of government offices are on the Virginia side.

It's what's known as a federal district. Not a state, it has non-voting appointed representatives to Congress.
