The symbol(s) indicate the chord's starting note (root), I being the 1st note of the scale, II the 2nd, III the 3rd, IV the 4th, and so on. Uppercase letters mean a major chord, lowercase mean a minor. V7 means a dominant 7th chord.

@Kenia It would depend on the key. The “I” just indicates that it's the root chord (tonic chord) of the key. In the key of C this would be a C chord (notes C E and G). In the key of D it would be a D chord (notes D F# and A).
