What force must be applied to push a carton weighing 275 N up a 15 degree incline, if the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.380? Assume the force is applied parallel to the incline and the velocity is constant.

1.) Find the force applied to the carton. (Define the positive direction to be up the incline)

    sin Θ = 0.259 ; cos Θ = 0.966

    F = W(sin Θ+μ*cos Θ)+m*a

    since V = constant and, therefore, a = 0, then :

    F = 275*(0.259+0.966*0.38) = 172 N ....// and up the incline
