which usage (what context)?  noun or verb?  Most commonly it is used to refer to the commencement of a process of some sort (whether as an action (verb) or in reference to the concept (noun)), but it is also less commonly used to refer to a reaction done from surprise.

A good dictionary would help you a lot.
