Why is there so many “mentally ill” people nowadays ?

Back then you didn’t hear much about them just recently there’s been a shooting at a Southern California high school I’m getting sick of these mentally ill people

Back In the day you had people like Ed gein and Jeffery Dahmer. Some of the "back in the day" "mentally ill" people killed literally hundreds. Way more then we see die today. Infact if you look at homicide rates. They've gone down a ton in recent years especially compared to "back in the day"

Because nowadays "mentally ill" goes for anything slightly out of the ordinary. Feel sad? Mentally ill. Have you ONCE in your life thought about killing yourself? Mentally ill. Have a certain opinion? MENTALLY ILL!

It used to be reserved for things like schizophrenia, shell shock etc.

It isn't a new thing at all.  Just many forget the past.  For one example from the 1890's, read the book "The Devil and the White City".  There were others much prior to that.  An example from the very early 1800's would be the people in New York City who preyed on those who happened to wander into wooded areas.  It was easier to kill your victims rather than simply rob them, so they did in great numbers.

technology has lead to the ability to more understanding of mental illnesses. There are not more mentally ill people but more diagnoses. It's not the persons fault its that they have not had the correct medical treatment

You just think there are more because people used to keep them hidden away.

State run institutions for the (fill in the blank)

Many reasons. Reagan decided building nuclear weapons was more important than mentally ill people so he cut funding of mental institutions. Drugs- OTC and prescription and back alley drugs are all harmful. Nutrition- nutrients people consume have been falling for decades as factory farms and ultra-processing have limited the nutrients in foods. TV/internet lets everyone with a grudge become nationally famous for a few minutes if they do something like a mass killing.

That guy shot up a high school, so he might have been bullied.

If so, that might be why he was mentally ill. Bullies can really darken people’s minds. They can cause people to have very disturbing revenge thoughts, make them hate humans, lower their empathy, etc.

I was bullied so much back in high school. I wasn’t right in the head back then because of all the pieces of shlt I knew.

There always have been... That's why there used to be asylums full of people. The problem is the lack of doing enough to treat it in those who are able to be helped, and the internet that has some really nasty places that drag people down to lower depths if they let themselves get sucked into it.

Funny how most of the cons here have zero real answers to offer, only trollish hate based on race or politics. No wonder nothing gets done under their watch.
