Does the thyroid gland stop releasing calcitonin if you have hyperparathyroidism?

Calcitonin is supposed to stop the secretion of calcium, but if you have hyperparathyroidism and the body cannot stop pushing out calcium, what happens to the calcitonin? My classmate hypothesized it just is not enough to get rid of all of it, but i don't feel like that is it exactly.
