Regular Classes and honor classes are quite similar. In fact, teachers share many of the same students.Honor courses have a distinctive way of teaching and learning. Courses give the students new experiences to get them to learn in a more realistic environment. These classes are smaller, assuring the student the best possible attention, given by the best specialist in the area.

Honors classes at my university are smaller classes.  They are less often lecture-based, and involve more emphasis on discussion and critical thinking.  There is a greater expectation that students read assigned readings ahead of class, and come prepared and able to talk about that information at a deeper level.  There are usually more writing assignments in those classes, as opposed to mostly exams.

Usually, smaller classes, more discussions and fewer lectures, but the expectations may be higher for grading.

I've never heard of honors classes in college. It's more a high school thing to take to get into a better college and/or challenge oneself.

It depends  on the university and the Honors college. At my daughter’s university honor classes could only be taken by students admitted into the Honors College. She needed a 3.7 gpa from HS to get in and had to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.6 while in college.  The Honors classes were colloquiums. Small classes with 15 or less students. The professor has complete control over the subject matter for the class. What is taught, how it is taught and the material use for the class.   One class she took was on sci-fi literature. She did a study aboard program to the U.K. and the head of the Honors college gave her six credits for classes taken there towards her Honors requirements. Some of her Honor college classes also counted for her general education requirements.

There was also an Honor college dorm. A different university’s Honor college or Honors program can be completely different.
